| partners | | After a couple of hikes, we decided to visit the old Signal Hill Lookout tower. It has been decommissioned and they discourage visitors by having removed the lower flight of stairs. But a little easy climbing on the lower part of the tower structure gets you to the first landing and the remaining stairs, though rotted and sketchy, were no problem to climb.
The views up there were stunning. Mt. Trumbull to the SF Peaks, with the canyon in between.
From there we stopped at the old ranger station in Pasture Wash and explored the cabin and barn. Neat to see both reasonably well preserved. There's a water spigot at the barn, but I can't imagine where it's source pipe comes from. I don't think there's any natural source for water up there. Perhaps they had a cistern/tank somewhere, but I didn't see it. |
