| no partners | | This was our final hike in the Bitterroots and it did not disappoint. This was also my first time in the area known as known as the "Lost Horse Country" in the Bitterroots and I was equally impressed by the area as well and concentration of trails and dispersed camping opportunities.
There is no official trail to Coquina Lake, but the unofficial route is as in good of condition as most maintained trails in the range and its numbered trails to the turn off for the lake. The unofficial spur trail to the lake is about a mile long. I added another two miles to this hike because I started off down the wrong trail again, but it was a scenic mess up. Sometimes I wonder how I even get around in these mountains. I included a few pics from the Bear Creek Trail in the photo set. The correct trail from the trailhead is the Bear Pass Trail and from there it is pretty straight forward to Coquina Lake. Coquina Lake was one of the more scenic lakes we visited on our trip and had a nice backdrop of partially snow covered unnamed peaks. We enjoyed the scenic lake for a bit before heading back and then returned the way we came. I hope to get back to this lake and area for an overnight trip and some further exploring of the other lakes and trails in the area. |
