| no partners | | Another day on the mesa. Perry Mesa has become a bit of a go to spot for us when we do not want to commit to anything too far out of town. Today we checked out some ruins that sit high above Bishop Creek. We basically walked in from Bloody Basin road and then explored a few sites that sat on the cliffs perched high above the dramatic Baby Canyon.
I had actually visited two of the three sites we saw today back in September, but it was a little warm then and I kind of toured the area quickly. The setting of these sites was pretty superb and probably one of the more scenic spots to meander through on the mesa. Some lingering fall colors in prime contributed to the scenic setting. The ruins were guarded by steep terrain and located along the high cliffs of Baby Canyon. The defensive posture of the ruins is a bit unique for Perry Mesa. We visited three total sites and saw several glyphs throughout the day and the usual deluge of surface artifacts that tend to accompany these Perry Mesa sites. The off trail travel was on par for the mesa, a pleasant stretch of Bishop Creek proved to be the highlight of the day in terms of hiking and was appreciated by the dogs. |
