| no partners | | The drive for this hike was horrendous. The guide for the hike states that a sedan could make the drive if dry, but there is no friggin' way that a sedan could drive on FR 609. I drove on FR 609 for 12.5 miles until I parked. I am sure that it took me well over 2 hours to make the drive on the way in. On the way out, I tracked it on my garmin and it took one hour 52 minutes. It was a slow, very rocky, rutty drive that required careful tire placement much of the way.
The hike itself wasn't too bad, at least not compared to the drive in. I found a place to park 2.2 miles from my intended parking spot. I walked the road for about 3/4 mile, and then busted up some slopes to a ridgeline that was NE of the summit. Then I followed the ridgeline to the summit. I reversed course on the way back.
The ascent up to the ridgeline was steep, but wasn't all that bad. There was some brush along the way, but I was able to find lanes through most of it. Plus I was encapsulated in body armor, so I was well protected!
There were great views at the summit, so I hung out there for a bit before heading back.
Synopsis
The hike wasn't as bad as I thought that it would be, but the drive took way longer than I thought that it would. I will not drive on that road again, so this hike is a DNR for me. |
