Looks like from the saddle it drops down into the Old West Boulder Canyon that you can follow to pop back onto the Dutchman Trail. this turns out to be a 8.9 mile balloon hike.
Although the trail leaving the Dutchman is a bit faint, and if your not looking for it you will miss it, it is there. We followed it up to Tim's Saddle. Shortly after the Saddle, and dropping down to the other side, it seems to grow quite faint, and then we lost it for a few hundred feet, but looking at the map determined that it should be on the other side of the wash we were working down, and it did look like there may be a trail over there. We made our way there, and sure enough it was there (and very faint, like a deer trail) but did lead down to the Old West Boulder Canyon streambed. No trails here, just follow the streambed. Water was running and the grass was quite high down there, so going was slow as we were initially boulder hopping and then pushing our way through the chest high grass. We eventually made it back to the Dutchman trail.
All in all an interesting hike and most of the Tim's Saddle Trail was pretty easy to follow if you paid attention to it.
I'll post this as an alternate route if you are interested in checking it out. |
