| partners | | Year 12 in the NYE hikes Denny and I started on 12/31/2010. I had a date with a football game on Saturday, So we settled on this date.
We were both a bit younger back when we started this tradition.

The cast this year included past NYE hikers Joe, Linda, John, My son Rob. New this year, was Rob's wife Lindsy.
With specific hiking parameters, we hit up an area that none of us had been to before.
We started from the Water Users day use area, just downstream from Stewart Dam on Saguaro Lake.
Pre-hike we were greeted to the salute of shotgun fire just below the parking lot. A couple of duck hunters and their dogs, with a miss.
The river below the dam had very little flow and was kind of scummy. We followed some use trails before we made it over to the other side of the Bush Highway. The trail here is well defined and gets quite a bit of use from both man and equine.
After the Blue Point Rec. area, the trail once again follows the river. There were a few fishermen with lines in the water here. The trail takes a turn to the North to follow a wash. "The Oven" is not far from this point. There is quite a bit of hiking in sand on this loop. Nothing too hard, it just gets a bit annoying after awhile.
Once you reach the high point of this loop, the views of Saguaro Lake open up and you are on a much more enjoyable ridge line.
We peeled off of the oven loop and made our way over to the Stewart Dam portion of the loop. Nice trails on this side of the highway, with good viewpoints to the lake.
The final side trip to check out the glyphs was closed because of trail work.
Perfect weather all day long!
Thanks to all that joined us for the 12th annual hike.
HAZzy New Year to all! |
