| no partners | | I had a cold, so I had to skip the Stiller & Diller hike last week. There was still some remaining congestion this weekend but nothing a good hike wouldn't clear up. Not feeling energetic, I got a later start just after 9:00am. The road up from the dam is getting some work. Lots of equipment along the way but no workers on Saturday. The trailhead only had a few cars but there was family camped and cooking breakfast at the trailhead. They later packed up and hiked in. I saw two gals just beyond the falls who missed the turn and were hiking back but pretty much had the trail to myself on the way in. The wild flowers were scant on the trail but plentiful on the drive in. There was one tree across the trail which was passable. A few guys could probably roll in off the trail. The rocks that rolled off Castle Dome on to the trail weren't as bad I remembered. I saw a roadrunner and a rabbit but no snakes. There is an abandoned campsite between Windy Saddle & Plow Saddle. I picked up the sleeping bags to make sure there wasn't a body. It looks to be a few years old. The hike ended at Plow Saddle. Apparently not fully recovered from the cold, it was time to turn back to avoid running out of steam. I saw 12 backpackers hiking in on my way out. Party at Reavis Ranch I guess. The clouds and the breeze keep the temp down an I drank just under 2 quarts on the trail. SR 88 was a little busy on the drive out. I think my next venture in will be from the Reavis Gap trail. |
