Instead, this carnivore aims its tail at an enemy's face and sprays a blast of acid that reeks of…..vinegar.
Ergo the name of the creature.
Why did the surveyors call the benchmark this name? Who knows.
==================================================
I have hiked in this area many times (far west and south of I-10), and on many of those longer, tougher hikes, I tried to squeeze in enough time to include this short Vinegaroon Benchmark hike.
I never had time, so for my first jaunt out in the wild desert this season, I finally did Vinegaroon.
My latest road data said the last road in - was not drivable, so I planned for a longer hike, that would include alot of 'road hiking' - It turns out the last road was fine, so I drove almost to where the azimuth mark was set.
It was a very nice, sunny, 'in-the-60s' day, with little wind.
No, I did not come across any vinegroons, or any other creatures.
Maybe I'll go online and buy a vinegaroon as a pet |
