If you would like to hike up a drainage full of boulders, some boulders bigger than Buicks, and then transition to a steep mountainside filled with even more 'Buick sized' boulders, this hike is for you.
This hike was short, but took forever. Constantly either climbing over boulders or finding pathways between them, became a tedious challenge. The "sticky" vegetation in between the granite boulders ripped me up enough that I had to stop 3 or 4 times, to use my 'comb-and-tweezers'.
Even though I knew all this from research, I still went up this peak. Yes, I'm a bit crazy. -
Curiosity made me go up this mountain, and I still have those same curiosities, after the hike.
I gleaned NO new info atop Salome Pk, to solve my curiosity, and will reluctantly chalk it up to,
"What The Heck ??".
This all has to do with little disks I seek to locate and research. Send me a 'HAZ PM' if you're interested - Too long to explain in a triplog and most couldn't care less. - Understood.
Once out of the drainage, the actual peak is 'off and on' visible, so there's no chance one will get lost. There are at least three or four bumps on the way up, (with drop-downs), that will hide the peak for awhile, but it's not a big deal.
Once past the last bump, it gets more steep, and more 'Buicks' show up. There's a 7 foot cairn atop Salome Pk that you'll be able to see on your last push to the top. The top is - You guessed it - Full of boulders. The summit log goes back to the early 1980s, but seems to have only one or two logins every few years.
While atop the peak, I zoomed a photo to my car, and noticed an ATV parked next to it (not there when I started my hike).
By the time I got back to the trailhead, there were 15 or 16 ATVs at the TH, with more coming down the road.
ATV people were there to view a supposed "Granite Jail" in a huge boulder, right there at the TH.
I have photos.
I hiked down, approximating my same track up. Going down included scree, as an added ingredient, to my fun.
All in all, it was an interesting hike, with the added attraction of me using up a box of BandAids. - |
