I was disappointed that there was no free parking near any trailheads. From where I parked, I walked up Pawnee Ave to the Intemann trailhead. The Intemann trail was relatively flat and there were patches of snow in many areas. I took the Intemann trail to the Red Mountain trail. By the way, both of these trails were in fantastic shape and it was obvious that a lot of work was put into maintaining these trails.
I met a hiker near the junction of the Intemann trail and Red Mountain trail who was starting out in the navy. He was quite a bit younger than me and in good shape, and we hiked together to the peak. At the peak, I met a woman hiker with a dog who told me about the peaks that were to the East, such as Iron mountain, which was lower in elevation to Red mountain. At the peak, there was a pole that had red and white stripes on it. It reminded me of a candy cane or something you would see around Christmas time with Santa. From the top, I could look to the West and see some of the higher parts of Pikes peak, which was partially in the clouds.
