| no partners | | Apparently, today is the shortest day of the year. 7 days ago, I sprained my right ankle coming down the Flatiron (Superstitions). I'm not 100% yet, but today I felt strong enough and well enough to get out for a relatively easy hike. I was sick of sitting around the house for a week. Most of the hike had a great trail up until the base of the peak where I need to get off trail.
On the climb up to the peak from the main trail, I took a route that had a lot of large rocks and boulders. I ended up weaving around them when I could but sometimes had to climb over them. I found my route down to be easier overall. I did have to climb through a section with boulders but at a certain point I found deer trails that I took to get to lower elevation. I did need to choose a good route to avoid cholla, agave, yucca, prickly pear, and cat's claw bush. In my experience, the brush is particularly bad in the Tortolitas and this hike was no exception to the rule, however, the off trail portion of the hike is only 0.5 each way.
At the summit I found a registry left there by SAHC. They visited on Nov 6th of this year with a 9 person group. I was the next person to sign the registry.
