This was a hike to the Pratt Benchmark (elevation of 5,935 feet and prominence of 1,503 feet), in the Peloncillo Mountains. The Peloncillos extend for about 200 miles, and are partly in New Mexico and partly in Arizona.

I drove in on a ranch road off of CR079. The ranch road wasn't too bad, but it was slow going -- I drove about 5-6 mph for 2.25 miles before I decided to park and just walk the remaining mile on the road.

After hiking about a mile on the road I took a use trail for a ways and then went off-trail to the peak. I had no beta on the hike, so I basically just headed up toward the peak. I could see some cliff bands in the way, and I was hoping to find a way through them. Once I made the steep climb to the cliff bands, there was way through them, but it was a short class 3 climb, but it wasn't at all sketchy.

I got to the summit and saw the benchmark and one reference mark. There was a bump to the east that appeared that it might be higher than the benchmark, so I went over there. I couldn't really tell if it was higher or not. From there, there was yet another bump to the east that looked to be about the same elevation so I went over there also. Again, to me it was inconclusive as to whether it was higher or not. In any event, I tagged all 3 potential highpoints so I figure that I got the peak bagged.

From the 3rd bump, I went on a class 1 descent down to a saddle, and from there I went alongside a drainage back down to where I started my ascent. Then I walked on the road back to my vehicle.

Synopsis
I enjoyed this hike -- it was a nice day and a scenic area. In particular, there were some nice views of the snow capped Chiricahua Mountains
