Attempting to stay dry and climbing up and around walls to surpass waterfalls and pools was a blast, although wearing some old sneakers and trudging through the water would have also been fun. The clouds covered for most of the day, which was a pleasant surprise. I saw my first rattler of 2009... He was big but not aggressive. He posed for some pictures, some of which (mine) didn't turn out. The second half of the hike was flat and open, and the sun was out for much of that section. I think a great option for this hike would be to hike in the canyon until it starts to open up, then climb up to the ridge and take a high route back to the trailhead for a loop. Definitely a hike for a cloudy, cool day, though.
After the hike we planned to meet at a Mexican food restaurant for dinner... To those who showed up- Sorry I disappeared. I received a phone call to remind me of some prior commitments yesterday evening and had to bail. Unfortunately, I had nobody's phone number to inform you I wouldn't be there, and when I attempted to locate the restaurant to bid fairwell to everyone, the only Mexican place I found around there was Polibertos... Hmm...
Anyhow, It was great to meet some fellow HAZers and I hope to hike with everyone sometime again! Thanks Shawn for organizing... |
