Morning hike at SoMo. Got to the Javelina TH around 5am. The lot was already half full with more cars pulling in behind me. Went in on the Ridgeline Trail. Fun roller coaster. I didn’t care for this re-route initially, but it is starting to grow on me. Then took what was formerly known as the Mormon Loop (now the backend of the Javelina Trail) up to the Mormon Trail. I noticed that they changed all the decals on the trail post but the large metal sign at the National/Mormon juncture still references the Mormon Loop Trail. I wonder how long that will remain. Decided to take Hidden Valley from the top. Some of those boulder sections can be tricky, up or down. I always feel like I’ve made the right decision until I come to the boulder, then it seems like it would be easier going the other direction. I don’t get back to Hidden Valley very often, but it seems like the spiderweb of trails is growing. Took the National back down to the Pima Wash Trail. Heard a coyote barking in the background. Funny, it was only for a few seconds, but I could see all the people below me stop and listen. I did the same thing. Love the sound of coyotes. One of the potential rewards for early morning hikes. Noticed what looked to be a recent rockslide just to the south of the National. Seemed like an odd occurrence. Wonder if it had some human assistance. From one angle it looked like the newly exposed surface had been graffiti. :( Took the Pima Wash Trail back to the Beverly/Pima connector. The wash was definitely the way to go. Easily avoided 30 hikers, bikers and runners who were utilizing the road. That being said, I still encountered over 80 users on the trails. Lot of people out early, trying to beat the heat. :D No wildlife, except for the brief song of the coyote.
