Got there a little before 5am so had to wait in line with a few other vehicles for the gates to open. Parked at the South TH and did the loop CW…South Trail to Goat Camp (briefly) to Bajada to Mule Deer. At Mule Deer I turned and went back to Old Stable Trail. Along the way I followed what I thought were some use trails, but discovered as I was doing them that they were part of the old visitor center Interpretive Trail. (Researching my previous write-ups I saw that I had “discovered” this trail back in 2017 as well). I took the Old Stable Trail over to Mule Deer and took that back to the TH. Nice hike, with decent temperatures. Even though I was only walking my knees were “barking” for most of the hike. Trails were crowded: 1 hiker, 3 bikers and 44 runners…..came upon a group of 36 Shadow Mountain cross country runners. |
