There is another peak a bit to the west at an elevation of 10,916 feet; hence the name Twin Peaks.
I drove about 5 miles on FR 079 to the Robertson Pasture TH. FR 079 is well graded and it was fine for my rental RAV4. As I was driving in it started raining, hailing, and thundering -- I wound up waiting until the skies cleared before hiking.
I took Robertson Pasture Trail #20 and then went off-trail for a bit and hit a use trail that went to the summit.
I saw a couple of elk and 3 grouse on the hike. There were quite a few wildflowers blooming also.
The hike was partly in a pine, fir, and aspen forest, and partly in some nice meadows.
I like the Abajo mountains quite a bit. It is a small range, and is akin to a sky island. There are really nice views along the way and at the summit. |
