| partners | | In the San Dieguito River Park, starting from the Piedras Pintadas Trailhead, we made our way to the Coast to Crest Trail. When completed, this trail will stretch 71 miles from Del Mar in the west to Volcan Mountain in the east, though it is currently 21 miles short. We covered just a small portion of this trail in hopes of seeing the actual water of Lake Hodges, which is currently only 13.1% full.
This trail is popular with mountain bikers. It's wide, smooth, and suitable for all skill levels.
We reached a spot where the water from the lake came into view before turning back. On the return, Deb waited for me at a picnic area by Felicita Creek while I made my way up Bernardo Mountain. This was my favorite part of the hike—an easy, smooth climb to the top, offering excellent 360-degree views of the surrounding valleys, peaks, and Lake Hodges

I made my way back down to Deb, and we drove out to Oceanside. We walked a couple of miles on the beach and pier, then enjoyed some seafood at Oceanside Harbor. |
