| partners | | It’s been more than 10 years since my last hike here. On that previous hike, the jaunt to the top and back went smoothly; the drive out on Empire Blvd, not so much [ photo ] . I had mentally taken this one out of the hike rotation.
When Linda suggested this hike, it was time to let bygones be bygones and hit the trail.
After admiring the stalagmite, we started hiking at 8:45 with a brisk 41-degree temperature. The geology along the trail is stunning all the way up. You begin to see mica, and the bright white granite becomes more prominent as you get closer to the top. It’s a steady climb that gets your heart pumping the whole way.
The big ol’ hunk of granite at the top makes for a great spot to take a break.
We took an extended break at the summit to refuel and dry off after the climb. We also spent some time reading the short story left by @Nightstalker
On the way down, we encountered two groups heading up. In the first group, we chatted with HAZ lurker @cactusneedles — good to meet you! |
