| no partners | | Touristy thing to do when in Salzburg, but actually pretty fun. Each of the bikes you rent is named after a character from the film. I rode "Rolf"; my wife "Brigitta." Mounted on each bike's handlebars was a flipchart with screenshots of various scenes from the film. We visited each place.
The famous gazeebo was built for the film and donated to the property owner after the film was over. But it was subsequently moved to a public park, after rabid fans kept breaking into the property to visit, take photos, etc. 
The residents of Salzburg are not fans of the Sound of Music and most have never seen it, apparently. Given how "soon" it was filmed after WWII, folks legitimately freaked out when the town square was draped with swastika flags during filming.
Cheezy film tours aside, Salzburg is a very cool city. One of our favorites in Europe (along with Prague), and an excellent jumping off point for many amazing hiking adventures! |
