| no partners | | I wanted to check out some wildflowers today, so I decided to hike up FR27, which is the old road up to Mount Ord. I went the length of FR27, which runs from the Slate Creek Trailhead up to a junction with FR626, which continues up to the summit of Mount Ord. I stopped at the junction and went back to the trailhead; afterall, it's not like I have never been up to Mount Ord! 
FR27 was built by the CCC back in the 1930's. Prior to the Bush Fire of June, 2020 the road was driveable with a high clearance 4WD vehicle, although there were a couple of spots that would test your clearance and approach/departure angles. However, in the aftermath of the fire the road became heavily eroded and today it is basically an OHV road imho.
I mainly wanted to see how the wildflowers were, especially since it has been such a disappointing wildflower season in the Valley. I would say that wildflowers are light to moderate at this point, which wasn't surprising since the wildflowers don't typically get going good until May. It was nice to finally see some color this spring though.
