Last day of vacation allowed for a short, early morning hike before departure. I decided to try the Mallard/Teal Trail. Got to the parking area near the “White House” around 5:30. I don’t think Trump would approve…..I didn’t see any golf courses in the area, but there is plenty of room to build one near the new homes being built in the area. I’m glad I did this trail when I did. This area is quickly being developed with high-end homes.

I didn’t download the trail, but I was happy to see that part of this trail crossed over into the area I was exploring yesterday, so I kind of knew where it was heading. Looking at the satellite image (after the hike), it looked like a followed a trail that stayed closer to Mockingbird Wash. I still turned from Camp Solitude at the same place. Followed something close to her route in making my way toward Mallard Cove, though I did have to pass through a construction zone to do it. I was very tempted to head over to the next campsite (Teal), but I was pressed for time and a little worried about making through all the new homes. I don’t think it’s possible to follow her (initial) return route. All new homes. I stayed in a small wash as long as I could before emerging into the controlled chaos. There were still more empty lots than not so I wasn’t hiking through someone’s backyard. That won’t be the case for long. Within a couple of years this hike will have to be done as an in and out.

Nice hike. Limited parking from where I started, but a neat and quick way to get into the north side of SARA Park. Saw some amazing rock work done by someone early on in the hike. A lot of time had to have spent in making the designs and windowed structure. Visiting another lake campsite was cool. Mallard is huge compared to Solitude and Balance Rock. Didn’t see anyone on the trails except construction workers. Wildlife included quail and one healthy looking coyote.
