Opted for some urban trails on the southeast side of Knoxville for the day. I roughly followed the South Loop, with some minor deviations. Parked at the Meads Quarry TH a little after 0830, paid my $5, and got started counter-clockwise. The trails are easy, and never steep. Reasonably well marked, but having a track to follow was helpful.

First interesting spot was the Keyhole at the old Ross Marble Quarry. Very cool area, where they obviously mined marble. If you are familiar with Minecraft, that game immediately comes to mind. The quarry walls are mined in perfectly straight cube-like shapes. Went thru the Keyhole, looked around, then continued on the loop.

The next neat area was Ijams Crag, which is a climbing area. There were numerous routes bolted into the rock walls. Continuing on the loop, I climbed Burnetts Ridge.

From there, I left the Meads Quarry region, and crossed i to Marie Myers Park. Easy walking thru the trees. After that, I crossed into William Hastie Natural Area. Again, more easy hiking thru trees.

From there, it was a short road walk to the Helix trails/Burnett Creek Easement. More walking thru trees. After that, I entered the Forks of the River Wildlife Management Area. Some of these trails are closed part of the year for hunting, but the perimeter trail is always open. Less trees for a while. Limited views of the French Broad and Tennessee Rivers. Another short road walk to close out the loop.

Parking lot was full when I finished. Tons of side trails I did not explore. Saw a lot of deer and squirrels. Saw a few hikers and bikers, but mostly had the trails to myself. Muddy in several places. Warm, but the near constant tree cover provided plenty of shade.
