| no partners | | Opted for North & South Chilco today. Not a far drive from my house, but I didn’t get started until 1030. Temps were still in the low 60s. Headed up to N Chilco first. The trail is steep, but in good condition. Good views from the summit, but some smoky haze in the air.
Dropped off the south side of the summit and took a use trail to reconnect with the main trail above the saddle. Once south of North Chilco, there’s more vegetation encroaching on the trail, but it’s still in pretty good shape. The summit of South Chilco isn’t very exciting, but a fire a few years ago did open up the views a little bit. From there, I retraced my steps back north, staying on the main trail the entire way.
Saw four other hikers. Passed several backpacking sites, but they would all be dry camping. Looks like it will be a good summer for huckleberries. The road is in good condition, when dry, any vehicle would be fine. |
