When I arrived, I ran into the woman who made the discovery - she said she had seen it a few hours earlier, but not since then. I scouted out the area quickly, then started a more thorough search.
I soon saw another birder looking at something intensely and shooting some photos, so I went to check what he was seeing. He made his way to me and said he saw a "baby grebe" - I looked, and sure enough it was the rare Least Grebe! He was from Connecticut and had no idea, lol ... he was appropriately stoked when I told him what he actually had.
I also photographed the nesting Ospreys, and a few other nice birds before continuing on down the road to the fish hatchery. Usual suspects there.
Life bird #343. |
