Didn't get a Hike in last Wednesday and I still wanted to get out somewhere. So I met up with a Friend I hadn't seen in 2 years and we went Birding and Hiking along the Bubbling Ponds and the Audubon Trails around the Ponds and Hatchery.

The Trail at the Ponds takes you through a Mesquite Thicket, a Meadow with Wetlands and along Oak Creek before looping back towards the Ponds. The Mini Trail System on the Hatchery side takes you through woodlands, along Oak Creek, into grasslands and into the Hatchery area itself, although the Hatchery is closed to entry right now for the Pandemic. I might hit this area again this winter. I should probably do some Descriptions and Routes for this as they are great little nature walks on good tread.

Quite a few birds, but it's a slow time of year, so nothing spectacular. Started at 5:30 am and finished up at 10:30 and then grabbed lunch in Cottonwood.

My Friend headed for home and I decided to drive up to Mingus for a bit, hoping some Storms would come in and I could Storm Chase. Although the Clouds were nice, the Storms just weren't going to amount for much, so I headed over to Payson where things were rockin' and rollin'. Still not much for Lightning but some really nice Rains. 64 Degrees at times, felt amazing. Got some take-out in Payson and ate at the local park. The Storms were fizzling so I headed home, catching a tiny rainbow along the drive. I had a nice day until I got to the 188 Intersection and started seeing the results of the Bush Fire. I did not enjoy the rest of that drive.

I did get some exercise, some birds cooperated, and I caught up with an old friend, so it was still mostly a good day. And the Shell Camper was a great place to nap on top of a mountain that had a whole bunch of people on it. No Solitude to be found on Mingus on this Saturday.
