| no partners | | Since the weather was great I was able to hike out to Mohican after Tammany. Dew point low 50s, temperature high 70s. Not missing 117 here! No one was here today compared to the 4th of July, which was also great.
Mostly insects now, very few birds. I did hear one pee-a-wee near the AT-Garvey junction.
Saw 2 other people, both on the AT heading south as I went north. No one on the summit. No bears.
Trail is overgrown with weeds down low and brush higher up. I wore deet for this hike, something I haven't done in probably 2 decades. Not sure when I will hike this again, but this is probably nicer when it is colder.
Despite the deet, I had a lot of chigger bites along my waist and shoulders where my pack rested. I recommend I, and others avoid this in chigger season, which is later summer. I think they were in the weeds down low at the beginning. I only sprayed my shoes and socks for ticks, so the chiggers went above.
Summit view was good, and there was no haze. I am pretty sure I could see the Catskills. |
