We traveled from the Lewiston area to spend the day in and around Traverse City. After the drive, we hiked the short but scenic Empire Bluff Trail, located southwest of Traverse City. The trail is in excellent shape, and I'm sure it sees heavy use during prime season. The hike starts through a lush forest before opening up to expansive views of Lake Michigan. Most hikers just go to the main viewpoint, but we extended our walk a bit down the sandy path to the south.
Next, we had lunch in Leland at The Cove Restaurant. I hadn't been there in years but had a craving for one of their Cubby Mary's.
To finish off the day, we hit a few wineries on the way back. Mari Vineyards was our favorite. It had a band playing and beautiful views from a hill overlooking the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay. |
