Arch Rock via Spring Trail
Parking our bikes 1.25 miles into the ride, we made our first side trip. It's a steep, 207-step climb to Arch Rock. By other arch standards, this one is on the smaller side, but it's still worth the climb for the view from the top. You can also view it from below while riding or walking. It's a popular stop for the horse-drawn tour buses, and during the prime summer months, this area and downtown would be a zoo.
Lost Lake Nature Trail
I had no idea what to expect. It's not worth a stop unless you are looking for a place to rest from your bike ride.
Fort Mackinac SP
It's a $17.00 fee to get into the fort, but it's worth it at least once to soak up the history. If you take one of the tours, they'll take you up to the top in a carriage; otherwise, it's a steep walk up to the entrance. We sampled all of the buildings and exhibits, but my favorite part was the overview of the city and surrounding area. |
