| no partners | | My first trip into Sholtz Lake since the restrictions were lifted. The prairie is dry, but the lake held lots of ducks. I saw 3 eagles--hmmm, why are there so many? My trek around the lake found (by smell) a dead cow near at north arm. The eagles were in the trees nearby. Not much left of it but hide and bones. I wonder if it was killed during hunting season last fall. One of the snags in the lake that the cormorants nest in has fallen; no cormorants sighted today. After the lake, I drove out to White Horse to see the osprey nest, then out to Sycamore Point to see if the effects of the Taylor Fire were visible. I could see one slurry drop on the rim across from the Point, and the canyon in the distance looked charred and was still smokey. |
