| no partners | | I called Palatki this morning to see if they had scheduled a viewing of the Agave Roasting Pit site/pictographs. They said to be there at 1:30 and to round up anyone who wanted to come. By the time the 5 of us arrived, there was about 20 people who got to see this seldom scheduled part of the Palatki site. A short trail along the cliff bottom led to the "Bear Cave", named for the bear pictographs. The two docents kept the group going, barely giving all of us with cameras the time to take pictures. Further up the trail is the "Agave Roasting Pit" site. The docents didn't tell the whole story about why this pit was never dug up and eaten (some historical reference to a massacre of the Apaches by the cavalry).
Anyway, the rock art is fantastic. Back down, after trying the docents' patience taking too long for photos, then down to the ruin site. We were the last group of the day and that docent was none too eager to let us linger. |
