The hike up the wash wasn't too bad, and we soon saw our route headed to the saddle to the east of Castle Dome. Some annoying scree can be found just below and just above the saddle. Aim for the gendarme mentioned in the hike description, and it's just pure fun from there. We scrambled up the crack directly above the saddle, but saw the slightly easier ramp, too. Both had solid holds and we all found the climbing enjoyable. Past this crux, it's fun and easy scrambling to a great view. Great day and great partners always help. Shockingly, with Ken along, we had a view and no precipitation. We'd have his normal conditions the next day on Sheep Mountain, though. |
