| no partners | | Pinal Point looks like a good adventure, I thought, arriving at Granville Campground. I'd better bring the binoculars. Forgot them, hiked back. Leaving the Pinal Trail at its saddle highpoint and immediately hitting a wall of angry vegetation, I hesitated. It's only 0.7 miles off trail, it can't be that bad. But it was. Old profanities were rapidly used up, and new ones had to be invented. Determined though, I reached Pinal Point in an hour and 20 minutes, at 4:45 pm. Took some photos, sent a SPOT message, and pulled on a fleece and a hat in the chilly wind, under overcast skies. Just below the summit, on the way back, I actually put on my pants bottoms. I could not recall my legs ever having been so raw from a bushwhack. A little while later, I arrived back at the Pinal Trail, filthy and bleeding, just in time for an incredible sunset. Color like I haven't seen in a long time! That redeemed the day. Back at the trailhead, I emptied several cups of twigs and leaves from my pockets, clothing and hair, and began the drive home. Once was enough for Pinal Point. At least until time clouds my memory.  |
