| no partners | | A solid dayhike with nice scenery, minimal route finding and nothing too strenuous. The route is very well cairned all the way to the Spring, which is just a s-l-o-w seep through a few cracks in a big rock. Although there wasn't any other water along the way, Coffee Flat and Randolph Canyon were lush and green. Lots of good camping spots there - nice for a backpack when the creek is flowing. I wish I could have kept going.
Most of the day, I had the whole world all to myself. It was wonderful and so peaceful out there. I hadn't seen anyone until I was about to leave the spring. Three seniors, two men and a woman, popped through the dense bushes and we all kind of startled each other. I had to stop them, as they were about to walk right past the spring without noticing it. I pointed it out and we had a good laugh at the trickle. After a stern (but, kindly meant) warning from the woman to me about the dangers of hiking alone, they went on ahead and I turned to head back. I didn't see anyone again until I was almost back to the Dutchman Trail, where I suddenly found myself in the middle of a population explosion... a line of trail horse riders, several groups of 7 or 8 people and lots of couples. Much too crowded for me, so I kicked it into high gear and made pretty good time back to the truck.
Another great day in the Supes! |
