Frick & Frack go hiking. So this was originally going to be in the Mazatzals but with the snowfall up there that was postponed. Of course after the fact the snow melted fast but we were on a mission. The plan was to meet at the Peralta TH at 6:30. We both showed up about 6:15 and got out early. It wasn't cold at 6:30 so we knew that later on it might be a tad warm. We hiked up the Dutchman to Coffee Flat, then to Reeds Water. There was not much water along the way so it doesn't seem like much fell in the Supes. From Reeds Water it seemed a short while until we got to Dripping Springs and saw the cave on the north side of Randolph Canyon. We scrambled up to the cave, climbed in, looked around and took a break in the shade. I noticed an alcove above Dripping Springs so why not? We hiked down past the lawn chair over to DS and climbed up on that side. At first I thought it was a bust but then an old camp came into view. We checked out the stuff and hiked back down. Once on our way again we took Coffee Flat through Fraser Canyon up to Whetrock Canyon. There was some fresh water in Fraser Canyon so no trouble if you needed a refill. Nick spotted the cliff where our next cave/alcove was located. We hiked up to it and saw a metal gallon can and a spud. The skeleton is long gone but I kind of figured that much. In Carlson/Stewart's new book it notes that Steve Bowser located the alcove in 2008. I emailed Steve and he verified that we had the right one. At this point it was warming up and Frick was still fighting a bug so we turned back. We stopped at Reeds Water on the way back to rest but there was no shade to be found. I went through 4 quarts of water/sports drink with nothing to spare. It was a successful seek and find mission. Thanks for coming out Frick.
