Did an out and back with wife starting from Mather’s Point. It’s always nice having an easy hike after doing R2R. My wife and I have slowly been knocking out these section along the south rim. Crowds were crazy at Mather’s Point, but as we walked to Pipe Creek it thinned out considerably. Path is paved with some very minor elevation change. Saw more than several people risking death for that “perfect” photo. :scared:

Visitor center to the Kaibab TH, then the bus to Yaki, and back to the visitor center. It is now paved to the Kaibab TH. Really nice day, which was why I wanted to come to the park. I would have come here more this summer, and would in the future, were it not so far from home.

I started this a little east of Pipe creek Overlook. I did an out and back on a nice paved trail. Lots of nice views along the way. I like the view from Mather Point. It has a good view of Cheops Plateau. The one Canyon summit I've done(with help). No inner Canyon trips for me this year. This was the one section of the Rim Trail I needed to finish it. I climbed the Desert View Watchtower on the way out of the park for some more cool views.
On an (I'm old) side note. I locked the car up before the hike and when I got back I noticed I left the window down... :o

Little after work stroll to get some fresh air and clear my head.
Trying to do things I haven't done before, since my days as a Park resident may be getting short.
Saw no one from Mather to near Pipe Creek Vista - turned around when I got close enough to hear voices at PCV ... saw two couples on the way back.
Elk were out and about, as well as nuthatches, woodpeckers, ravens, and juncos.

Nice loop down BA and up SK, I'd forgotten how nice the lower section of BA is. Packed snow on the upper part of BA, SK was clear. Somebody needs to write a "Rim Trail - Pipe Creek Overlook to South Kaibab trail head" description (edit: done).

Got up at 3:45AM to drive some Thanksgiving guests back home to the Grand Canyon Village. After dropping folks off at their homes, I drove out to Pipe Creek Overlook to shoot stars, then drove back and parked at the visitor's center. Sitting in the car, toyed with the idea of jumping on the bus out to Yaki Point, but decided to hit Mather Point instead. The eastern sky started to get light so I started walking, only to find Mather Point to be closed! There was alpenglow popping on the cliffs already, so I just started working my way up the rim trail to the east, trying out all sorts of compositions in the beautiful dawn light, barely noticing the single digit cold. Finally the sun crested the horizon, and soon the photography light was fading. Satisfied, I took a long look at the canyon before heading back to the car.

Resting on the next day after Havasupai dayhike went to Grand Canyon and took a stroll along the South Rim. Took a shuttle to Yaki Point first and enjoyed great views from there that included parts of all corridor trails at once. Returned to Pipe Creek Vista and started walking westbound along Rim trail. Besides views of canyon itself this portion of trail shows a giant anthill of people bustling about Mather Point. Made an offshoot to Information Plaza where read hiking safety posters carefully. Returned to Mather Point and continued on the Rim Trail to the Village, visited the newest Visitor Center in the oldest Grand Canyon building (Verkamp's), walked down to Hermits Rest transfer and made another offshoot to Maswik Lodge for lunch. Went back to the rim and headed up to Hermits Rest. Areas around Maricopa and Powell Points are under redevelopment after demolishing of Orphan Mine site in 2009. After passing Hopi Point pavement ended and the dirt trail turned out to be really muddy because of recently melted snow, so I took a shuttle from Mohave to Pima Point arriving there exactly at sunset. Made a final walking stretch from Pima Point to Hermits Rest on the paved rim trail called 'Greenway trail' between Monument Creek Vista and Hermits Rest and having funny "Greenway ends" sign on the east side.
