After dropping folks off at their homes, I drove out to Pipe Creek Overlook to shoot stars, then drove back and parked at the visitor's center. Sitting in the car, toyed with the idea of jumping on the bus out to Yaki Point, but decided to hit Mather Point instead. The eastern sky started to get light so I started walking, only to find Mather Point to be closed! There was alpenglow popping on the cliffs already, so I just started working my way up the rim trail to the east, trying out all sorts of compositions in the beautiful dawn light, barely noticing the single digit cold. Finally the sun crested the horizon, and soon the photography light was fading. Satisfied, I took a long look at the canyon before heading back to the car. |
