A morning stroll to test out a camera. The lens was dirty so I found that out later. Still nice in the wee hours of the morning.

Wally and I got out for a leg stretcher on the front of the Supes. Started a little before sunrise to beat the heat, sort of! 🥵😁 It was good to get out! Thanks for the hike Wally! Like HAZ, you rock!

Denny got away, so we went for a hike. I suggested the out trails out east. We hiked around until we had 5 miles.

A morning hike to measure the route and get some AEG. An early start gets you under the mountain shadow for the 1st climb. The trails are open and not busy.

Looking for a morning hike with mountain shade. Starting from the start of First Water road and taking the Crosscut trail at first light seems to work. Should be easy to go up Prospector trail and loop back up Treasure Loop trail and get 1000 AEG out of the sun. There will be hiking in June.

Headed out towards First Water Road to hike some of the Jacob's Crosscut Trail. on the way out I spotted Wally on his way back early at 5:30am :-k . Turns out he was bailing on some plans with unforeseen circumstances.

From the TH I hiked 3 miles out and turned around, then hiked up Siphon Draw for just over a mile. On the way back down Siphon Draw I took the Palmer Mine Trail over to Prospector's View, then back down to the Crosscut and back to the TH. Hadn't been up or down Siphon Draw in over a decade, so it was nice to see the views getting further up the canyon after so long. It was also nice to chase the shade for a bit to keep hiking in cooler temps as everything was getting warmer everywhere else around me.

Parking lot was nearly empty once I got back, in great contrast to times I've parked there recently in the winter months. It's not really that hot yet, so I was bit surprised, but not disappointed.

After lunch I hiked up to the praying hands feature. I went out on the Siphon Draw, took the Prospector View trail over to the Treasure Loop and then the spur to the hands. It was quite hot, so I sat in the shade near the hands for a while.

Saw 2 bighorn ewes on the Prospector loop section. Seems they may be common there. Still nice.

Google maps and another app gave it this name, and visitation predictably exploded.

I had been here once before several years ago on a Reverse Flatiron trip. Back then, route finding was involved. Not so much now.

Originally planned to approach from the road to First Water, but we got a late (for us) start and the road was a zoo. So we backtracked and went from the Lost Dutchman side. Probably more scenic anyway.

The “falls” were flowing a bit from the rain the day before, but not spectacularly. Saw several groups along the way and at the primary stopping point.

I explored farther up to the “goalpost” rocks, which had been my cue on the previous trip to turn up towards 5024.

It was a beautiful day for a hike. The clouds provided a nice backdrop for photos.

After finishing up; we headed over to Canyon Lake for an afternoon kayak.

I took my grandson Isaac along with a couple extras (Noah and Lucas) to hike Treasure Loop. They wanted to add on Praying Hands so we did. Trail was in the normal shape. Nice temps out. We saw a couple deer 🦌 legs laying on trail which was odd.
Came down Prospector trail which was rocky as ever. Took Siphon back to the car. Wet our whistle at the Goldfield saloon on our way home.
I think fun was had by all! Thanks gentlemen!
Like HAZ, you rock!

Lunchtime hike. I hiked up Treasure Loop, across Prospector, and back on Siphon draw. Weather was great. Trail is a little rocky in spots. There were just a few purple flowers on lower half of Treasure Loop and just a few Poppies on top half of Treasure and top half of Prospector. Out of the million Brittlebush out there I only say about 4 with flowers. Jojoba looking pretty healthy. Very green out there but no big flower show yet.

RouteScout crashed and dumped all my routes today, so the included route for this hike is not an actual track, but one I created in a map editor. Also kind of lame and sad that Peak 3845' had a summit jar essentially full of garbage. Scouted several areas searching for existing and possible climbing routes. Most definitely some with potential if one enjoys big approaches. :)

I believe the park opens at 6am this time of year. I got there at 5:45 and it looked like they just opened
the gate. It looks like the park has gotten a lot of rain. There was a downed tree by the bathrooms and they were out of order. The Saguaro Ramada bathrooms are open. The trails are a little chewed up in some areas. Nice morning to be out, albeit a little muggy! I saw 1 runner and 3 hikers with one of them possible a little confused of his route.

Heading east around 930am on the 60 I started to get poured on around Gold Canyon. I flipped a U-y and went to Lost Dutchman State park instead. Very few people out. Trail had gotten some rain but was still firm enough to not make a mess out of it. Temps 55 with wind was really nice. The foothills south of Treasure Loop had a sea of Brittlebush blooms! Albeit a little past their prime it was still a pretty nice showing. Some nice clouds out there today too. Although they did block Four Peaks and the Flatiron from view. Enjoyable outing!

Ended up with plan C for this 1. For some reason I decided to follow an idea from another trail site that I'm sure no one has ever heard of 😀 Their write up was difficult to follow & I ended up going the wrong way early on.

That is fine as I was curious bout this other route anyway. However, cross cut eventually grew a bit uneventful. I finally saw people & knew it must be siphon draw. I passed that and then veered off to prospectors view.

Finally some climbing + something diff. I then connected to treasure loop. Gaining some views + another geocache attempt. Hmmm, my GPS seems to need to be calibrated & updated. It is now getting a bit l8 so I decide it would be best to turn around here.

On the way back I was treated to a pretty sunset. It then became dark but took awhile for the horizon to turn dark also. Finally got back to the Broadway TH with the help of my headlamp.Merry Christmas fellow adventurers! 🎅🎄
