Parked at the Coronado sign Hiked across the Swift Trail and dropped down into Jacobson Canyon Down Jacobson to John's Dam John's Dam down to Goat Tank Back out to the Swift Trail and back around to where I parked completing a lasso loop.
Low canyon water flow, nothing going over the dam and Goat Tank was low.
Saw a water turtle in the creek and kicked up a javalina at Goat Tank.
Got warm out, but was an enjoyable hike!
Last day of the orchard 2025 season.
Picked just a few apples for my short hike.
Hiked down to Jacobson creek for coffee & apples.
Good to see the creek flowing again!
Plan was a swim at John's Dam/Jacobson Canyon.
Both were bone dry, not even a puddle.
Plan B was Dry Canyon.
Took it up to the climbing wall.
Good creek flow up here and had some light rain.
Added a plan C with a short hike down to Jacobson Creek via Ladybug Trail.
Just chilled by the water.
Fun afternoon.
Very fun afternoon in the pools of John's Dam!
My buddy Lauren, her daughter & step mother were my water partners.
Jacobson creek is flowing light now and will be down to just pools in the next week or so.
Below the dam still had a good pool for us to splash around in up til sunset ... it was fun!
Canyon tree frog concert throughout the canyon as we left.
Next mountain swim will have to wait until the first good monsoon gets the canyon going again.
First stop at Roper to see my buddy and meet the new Park Manager.
2nd was up Jacobson Canyon.
John's dam looked awesome with all the snow melt flow.
The canyon was flowing good and I didn't want to, but had to get the shoes wet for several crossings up to the swimming hole.
No swim today ... but soon!
Lot's of tall green grass, yellow and purple flowers and endless little waterfalls all up the canyon.
Last stop was at Dankworth for sunset and another friend visit.
Thumbs up for my afternoon!
From the Coronado sign I took the recently found cairn trail into the canyon. I don't know who plotted this route, but awesome job dude(s)!
Took the canyon up to just before the narrows. Creek had good flow and the fall colors are just starting, I thought they would be a tad more yeller
There were lot's of canyon tree frogs popping from the granite and I had a hawk flying over me the entire hike.
A climb up out of the canyon and the Swift Trail brought me back for the loop.
It's always beautiful up that canyon, but I'll have to hit it up again in the coming weeks for the color change.
Nothing big just out enjoying all this mountain water!
Entered Jacobson at about the mid section and down to my secret waterfall.
Then a bit up Helldive Spring. Never even came close to the spring, tall grasses has the trail completely hidden.
I ended with the RTN where I was greeted with the evening's storm cells & a faint rainbow. Was heading up the road when I noticed the FS horses in the opposite direction up in the canyon. I can never pass up the horses so up the canyon I went at sunset. Reached and had a great interaction with the 8 of them before heading back down in the low light. It's always a little nerve racking hiking through the grasses wondering where them rattlesnakes are.
So beautiful up there with all the water & green!
It's been a great week of monsoon storms!
It's been hard getting an evening hike in before they hit.
Got up Jacobson to my favorite swimming hole and took the cold plunge as the first crackles of thunder rang overhead.
I added Goat Tank to the mix as light sprinkles fell.
Never made it down to the tank, way to bushwacky now.
Back at my vehicle I just chilled for sunset and stayed put for the evening's storms.
They hit from every direction tonight and I spent 2 hours photographing and enjoying the great light show!
