Bazillions of cars up and down Speedway. Weird on a Tuesday morning, but I guess it is tourist season. Only place to park was at Wildhorse trailhead. So I took Wildhorse. Just wanted a nice easy hike since I think I’m still recovering from Esperero.

Got caught behind some equestrians on Wildhorse (surprise) but didn’t mind the slow pace. Passed a trail runner and lots of tourists wearing out their cameras on Garwood. Nobody on Stock Bypass.

Short easy Peasy hike in Saguaro National Park. Great hike around sunset. The incoming storm made for beautiful scenery. The highlight of the hike was a crested saguaro. The recent rains seemed to give a little relief to the cactus but they need more. This next storm is expected to bring snow to the valley which will be a gig help.

1st trip
Wanted to do a loop of the western trails in saguaro National Park that I haven't done in a long time. Started with the Shantz trail to Cactus Forest Loop drive and went along the road to the Loma Verde Trail Head. From the Loma Verde I took the Squeeze Pen and Kennedy Trail back to the Shantz Trail. Still had time and water left so I added the bajada Wash and returned via the Garwood and Stock Bypass Trails.

There was a lot of rain two days prior so that made the walking easier along the sandy portions of the Shantz, Bajada Wash and the stock bypass trails. Was a little muddy on portions of the Lower Shantz trail near Monument wash but it wasn't bad. There was also water pooling along the upper portions of the Bajada Wash Trail. The trails are all in good condition but portions of the Squeeze Pen trail near the end toward the Kennedy Trail had a lot of erosion. There was only one person (jogger)on the Shantz Trail near the Broadway trail head and one person on the Garwood Trail. Great day for hiking the temperatures were in the 70's but the humidity was very high. Started the hike at 175 lbs and finished just over 170. Spent the rest of the day re hydrating. I want to do the Monument and Loma Verde Wash trails again at some point but will wait for another storm to make the walking easier.

Short run through the park. Very cloudy and it was lightly running by the time I finished.

Evening run thorough SNP as the sun set. It was a windy day so the air was full of dust which helped make the sunset a little more intersecting. Saw 3 deer and a young coyote on the trail.

Went for a run from Broadway trailhead. Didn't really know how long of a run my legs were up for, so I just took off with no real destination in mind. It was nice and cloudy out for most of the time I was on the trail, I even had a couple small showers. Ended up running from the Broadway Trailhead, south to Loma Verde Trailhead, back north to Douglas Spring Trailhead, then swung south to Pink Hill and worked my way back to where I started. I think I covered nearly every trail between Speedway & Cactus Forest Drive!

Middle of the day run while the thermometer read 99 degrees outside- I had the trailhead & the trails all to myself. Ran Douglas Spring Trail to Carrillo Trail, down Three Tanks, then followed Bajada Vista to Shantz Trail, backtracked to Creosote trail, and returned along the Stock Bypass.

Trail run from the Speedway Trailhead to the Broadway Trailhead and back again. Didn't start with any specific destination in mind, just let my feet carry me and my mind wander (stuck to only right turns on the run out, and left turns on the way back). Nice day: quite sunny, but the temperature was in the 60s/70s with a nice breeze. Had two pause briefly on two occasions when I encountered horse riders. Luckily I did not encounter any rattlesnakes.

Night time hike wandering on several trails I have never been on before. Saw 2 Gila Monsters, 5 rattle snakes, and various other critters.
