After the deathmarch slog from the day before, I just wanted to do something easy and laid back. Went over to Usery Park (short drive) and hit some trails I haven't done in a few years there. Started on Blevins, and did a loop with Amigos Wash, Channel Trail, Moon Rock, Lost Sheep and Chainfruit trails back to the Area 10 lot.

It was cool at the start because the sun hadn't hit the horizon. Then when I was in Amigos Wash it was cool again because of the shade and because it's usually cooler in washes in the mornings.

Nice to get a few miles in just after a huge hike the day before. my legs were stiff but not too bad. I felt it more by the end of the hike and decided that was enough for the weekend. The smooth and level trails here were a nice respite from the last part of the hike the day before. Got many distant views of Mt. Lemmon just after having been there. didn't see any wildlife other than birds and rodents, but heard the usual coyote packs howling in the morning as the sun rose.

Little bit of a later start than usual for me, kind of a lazy day hiking. Did a loop on the flatter trails, doing some zig zagging north and south between the Blevins and Levee Trails. Lots of water and a little leftover hail from the storms the night before. Saw a coyote and a hawk. Only a few other hikers and shockingly no bikers. A couple more hikes on the Blevins Trail and I'll my first big red dot on my triplog map.

I went out to Usery for a sunrise leg stretcher. Ran into an old Amigo while there. :y: Trails in normal shape. Mostly mountain bikers out with a couple hikers and a horseback rider with an extra horse and a couple dogs. Enjoyable morning!

My seemingly never-ending health issues now include a small tear in my medial meniscus. The docs and PT folks have been encouraging me to walk/hike on flat and easy trails for now. So, I opted for the flattest and easiest trails near my house - Usery Park.

I did ok for my first hike since my injury. No land speed records, but I wasn’t limping along like I had been.

Cloudless skies made for less that stellar photo conditions, but I did get lucky and found a low hanging saguaro arm loaded with blooms. That’s always a treat.

Lots of bikers, runners and hikers out. The weather was nice and I finished up early. A quick loop along the prescribed flat and easy trails I needed.

Signs of recent rain and very humid. Cloud cover was nice, though.

Stayed close to home again for a hike. I hiked the Pass Mountain Loop and added the Amigos Wash and Noso Trail as part of it. Nothing major of note. The views on the north and east side of the loop are always the best. I always hike this loop clockwise. Going uphill on the east side seems like too much AEG at once for me to want to take on. The green is starting to fade to brown from the heavy monsoon, but there's still plenty there. Lots of bugs around as well, but not too bad. Didn't see too many bikers with this choice of trails. The hikers and the trail runners seemed to be about the same amount. Got more AEG than I've had recently, felt good to work a little more.

I had originally planned this as a family hike, but my wife had to attend a rehearsal and my daughter had a Saturday night sleepover at her friend's house, so it ended up as another father and son hike. The Chainfruit Trail is another very new trail in Usery Park that wasn't there last October when were there last. This was a great excuse to go hike so close to home.

We started at the parking lot at the southwest corner of the Blevins Drive loop, and took the Blevins Trail to the southern terminus of the Chainfruit Trail. Heading NW along the Chainfruit, we hiked the two spur trails out to the campground areas. The second spur takes you to an RV campground, which has a half mile interpretive Nature Trail. You have to walk about 100 yards along the asphalt to get to it from the spur trail, but we didn't mind. The RV grounds were full of snowbirds. All the plates were out of state. The Nature Trail was interesting. There were 18 different plants labeled, which I took note of. they even had a Christmas cholla.

After we completed the Chainfruit Trail, we took the Lost Sheep Trail south to the Moonrock Trail, and did the spur trail that heads into the subdivision to the west. After getting back on the Moonrock, we took it around back to the Blevins again, then headed east and took the Amigos Wash Trail north, and headed back to the car on the Blevins. Totaled out at just over 7 miles, very respectable for Dmitri, who was able to keep up with no difficulties (and minimal complaints, other than the chilly weather early on).

In the Amigos Wash Trail we heard sirens from emergency vehicles driving by the park. that usually sets off the coyotes that are nearer than you would think, but we didn't hear any.

Saw about as many hikers as bikers. Finished by 11:30am and headed out for lunch. The weather was clear and very nice, but I still didn't take many pictures. Nothing to see that we hadn't seen before.

Nice overcast morning. Great time for a desert stroll. I even ran into an old Amigo which was pretty cool! :y:

Checking out some more Usery trails. If the trail name has wash in it, believe it :) . Slow going. They seem more for horses or exploring. The other little trails in the area are good for Mountain bikes and hiking too.

Down Amigos, Back up Noso. Took the Vista trail, then walked up to Wind Cave Trailhead to look for Coleman. I found Coleman, but it looks like it is headed back to vegetation, so I let it be. Headed back to car on Vista trail.

What seems to be an annual visit to the "Usery Flatlands". Morning jog starting from the McKellips Rd. entry point. Did a loop involving Levee-Signal Wash-Spillway-Ruidoso-County Line-Meridian-Cat's Peak-Blevins-Amigos Wash and Channel Trail. Nice trails to jog on. Wish they were closer.

Lazy morning stroll. Out looking for wildlife in Usery Park. Saw a rattlesnake, a kingsnake and countless lizards. Created a hike description.

Another easy stroll in Usery Mountain Park. I started at the 103rd Street TH, went north on NoSo trail and did half of the Merkle Loop. Then I sprinted to the high point on Vista Trail. There's an incredibly large beehive at the summit so I didn't stay long. Came back down and completed the Merkle Loop. Then headed back to my car via Amigos Wash Trail. Saw two desert tortoises and a juvenile diamondback in the wash.

I've done all the trails within Usery park at one time or another. Linking them together is a great way to make up any distance you want to run/hike/bike.
