My bike buddies Carey and Dan joined me in Sedona to ride this excellent loop. I was surprised to find parking available at the Mescal trailhead at 9am, but it was a Thursday. I can tell you that there is currently construction going on along Dry Creek road near Devil's Bridge - the shoulder is being closed to parking south of the turnoff to the Devil's Bridge trailhead. We rode Mescal north to Canyon of Fools, Dawa, Aerie, Deadmans Pass, Long Canyon, and returned on Chuck Wagon. Perfect temps and excellent trails!

I was a little nervous about heading to Sedona on a holiday weekend just days after the Dry Creek trail system quarantine was lifted. But, the temperatures were forecasted to be great and we're early birds so we went for it. Got to the Mescal trail head at 7am and only a couple of vehicles there. Quick climb up Mescal right from the start then the trail levels off to go around the mountain. Opted for the "Extreme" trail this time. The only real tough part is jumping a foot wide gap on the off camber slick rock (I ended up pushing my bike across). Mescal is such a treat! From there we jumped on Deadmans Pass for a big long climb over to Long Canyon which is smooth fast downhill to Chuck Wagon. Chuck Wagon is a nice long collection of ups and downs with plenty of shade and some interesting rocky challenges. Lots of traffic on Chuck Wagon, both bikers and hikers. Took Chuck Wagon all the way down to Girdner and over to Snake. From there to OK Alternative which was devoid of any signs of recent human traffic. Jumped on OK for a bit and then crossed the road up Canyon of Fools to Yucca and back to the trailhead on Mescal.

Went up to Sedona today for a mtb bike ride with SCA. Found many trail heads closed with a big "STAY HOME" sign. Was planning on parking at Mescal, but everything along Long Canyon road was closed. Drove over to Fay Canyon and parking there was open. Made an impromptu plan B and hit the trails. Fantastic day. Also rode Canyon of Fools - that was FUN!

Belated post. This was met second hike of the morning while in Sedona. After doing the the Baby Bell loop, I drove over to the OK/Dawa TH. This is more like roadside parking for 4-5 vehicles, but it is the most convenient way to access this trail. I wanted to get a loop involving the Dawa Trail. The Dawa Trail starts from the road and heads in a southward direction with a slight angle to the west. About .3 miles there is a dry wash, which today was very muddy, causing me to detour slightly to avoid the worse. Otherwise, the trail was in good condition and easy to follow. The trail is fairly flat though there is a little climb as it approaches the Cockscomb Trail. This is your best chance to appreciate the surrounding views. (More times than not the distant views are obscured by foliage and surrounding hills. The Dawa briefly joins the Cockscomb as it turns to the east. About .8 miles later the trail connects to the Az Cypress Trail which I took north. I was on the AZ Cypress Trail for about .5 miles before connecting to the OK Trail which quickly got me back to the Dawa and then back to my car. Very nice trail to run. Low impact. Not your typical Sedona trail with the Sedona "highlights" that people rave about. Still, a nice grouping of trails in this area with a multitude of loop options.

I was dropped off this morning at the Bear Canyon Trailhead and ran out to the Palatki Ruins on FR152. Then I ran back to the Fay Canyon Trailhead and hit the trails back to 89A near Dry Creek Road.
