This is more like roadside parking for 4-5 vehicles, but it is the most convenient way to access this trail. I wanted to get a loop involving the Dawa Trail. The Dawa Trail starts from the road and heads in a southward direction with a slight angle to the west. About .3 miles there is a dry wash, which today was very muddy, causing me to detour slightly to avoid the worse. Otherwise, the trail was in good condition and easy to follow. The trail is fairly flat though there is a little climb as it approaches the Cockscomb Trail. This is your best chance to appreciate the surrounding views. (More times than not the distant views are obscured by foliage and surrounding hills. The Dawa briefly joins the Cockscomb as it turns to the east. About .8 miles later the trail connects to the Az Cypress Trail which I took north. I was on the AZ Cypress Trail for about .5 miles before connecting to the OK Trail which quickly got me back to the Dawa and then back to my car. Very nice trail to run. Low impact. Not your typical Sedona trail with the Sedona "highlights" that people rave about. Still, a nice grouping of trails in this area with a multitude of loop options. |
