Late afternoon swim hike.
Creeks are drying up, but found a good flow/pool to soak in along Jacobson.
Took the Horse Trail in/out.
2 white tails along the way.
Then took the Helldive trail just a bit in for the sunset view.

It's getting harder & harder to follow the old trail down to this spring.
It's not far so I made it by memory.
Beautiful little canyon, the spring box was full and there was water flow.

Nothing big just out enjoying all this mountain water!
Entered Jacobson at about the mid section and down to my secret waterfall.
Then a bit up Helldive Spring. Never even came close to the spring, tall grasses has the trail completely hidden.
I ended with the RTN where I was greeted with the evening's storm cells & a faint rainbow. Was heading up the road when I noticed the FS horses in the opposite direction up in the canyon. I can never pass up the horses so up the canyon I went at sunset. Reached and had a great interaction with the 8 of them before heading back down in the low light. It's always a little nerve racking hiking through the grasses wondering where them rattlesnakes are.
So beautiful up there with all the water & green!

Rain, snow melt = Nice little waterfalls throughout!
Short trip up the Helldive Trail.

Kept it short & sweet today due to the incoming weather predicted.
Helldive was the choice. This was a heavy hit Frye fire area, but looked a lot better than expected with knee high grass full of yellow flowers throughout and some intact patches of trees left. The spring located up a small canyon had just minimal damage. The gloomy dark skies stayed at bay until my return trip with just .5 mile left. Rain then hit steady and heavy forcing me under a juniper covered with my poncho to ride it out for 1/2 hour. Love my old USGI issue poncho = Dry!
Everything was flash flooding back down to my truck. On this side of the lower mountain everything drains into one and flows over John's Dam so a quick hike down to view & photograph was mandatory ..... it did Not disappoint.
Sunset was had at the Deadman curve overlook. No sunset got through, but I was rewarded with a trademark Pinaleno low cloud/fog shot just below the Deadman Peaks!
2 white-tail does & a canyon tree frog were the critters spotted today.
I also spotted a lot of golden aspens up high, seems a little early ..... I know where I will be going next week :)

Second an out-n-back to a place I like by Helldive spring.
Overcast with on and off light sprinkles.

First up was Noon Creek PA to get my gear together and just relax for an hour.
Then a short drive down the road to the Helldive TH.
It's a short distance to the spring, but the trail in packs a very nice scenic punch and that is all I was after this afternoon. The last 200 yards to and down into the canyon is a little bit of a :pk: to follow, but the small canyon holding the spring makes it worth it!
Saw a white-tailed doe at the spring and a red-tailed hawk above during the short hike.
Looked like stormy weather moving in as I left ..... fun trip!

Tried something new this afternoon with the RTN. I hiked up the road & around to it's end, then off-trailed down the steep & rocky mountain side to Helldive Spring, then dropped down onto the Swift Trail and took it back to the start completing a loop. Some of my ideas up there have not worked out, this one did perfectly! I will now add this fun loop into my regular rotation.

First trip to Helldive spring which I have noticed on topo maps for years just off the Swift Trail. Only had about 2 hours to explore today and thought it would be a good one to check off the list. Google Earth showed what I thought was just cattle trails to the spring, but I was quite surprised to find that the trail was actually an old Forest Service/jeep/wagon road (?) that led right to the drainage that the spring was up. After a tougher than expected climb up the drainage I came upon an old spring box and a little further up was the spring that was tapped with a pipe. It was just to be a very short hike to a spring, but this area has some history to it and I think after some research, I may have to put up an overview for this one. Very cool find with some very cool scenery along the way!
