This was a training hike for doing the Grand Canyon in October. I started Deer Canyon and hiked up to the Potato Patch Loop. At the junction of the loop, I kept to the right and walked to where the trail joins the boy scout camp.

When I reached the trail for Aspen Peak, I ascended the peak, and was very happy that I made it there in 1 hours 15 minutes from the bottom of deer canyon. I stopped, had a little snack and headed back down. I went through the Boyscout camp and headed for Hualapai Peak.

As I neared the top, of Hualapai Peak I saw a little used road/trail heading to the South (right) and I followed it. As I went further along, the road turned and began a series of switchbacks. I followed the switchbacks to the end and from the end I could see a crest of the mountain above. I scrambled up the weed-covered gravel & rock section to the top.

The view was amazing! I could see Yucca on one side and the Music & Aquarius Mountains on the other. Stopped and had a bit of a snack and headed back down to where I originally veered off the trail.

I hiked up the rest of the way to trail marker 14 and then turned around and headed back down to the turn off of Potato Patch Loop.

Finished the hike in just over 4 1/2 hours and had a great day!
