It has been a while since I have done this hike so I decided to do it today.

The east entrance to the Andrews-Kinsey Trail in the Fountain Hills Preserve has been rerouted, so I went on the reroute today. The reroute lengthens this hike by about 0.3 miles, but it moderates the rate of ascent somewhat on the first part of the hike.

Bruce and I got started around 9:45am. Late to start a hike but to see Bruce.... Bruce set a comfortable pass. Chit chatting made the aeg go pretty good and we were to the summit without to much whining. The hike back went smoothly too. The trail was in great shape and there was even one guy working the trail. The vegetation on this hike is looking pretty good with the Ocotillo stealing the show! The weather and clouds were great as was the company!! It was great to catch up! Thanks for the hike , my friend! Like HAZ, you rock!

Got out to hike with the Turtle after a morning appt, starting just before the crack of 10am. Temps were perfect and the crowds were light on our way to the peak. The Ocotillo were in bloom and the only color observed other than the brown and green desert hues.

Every time I'm out here there's more and more building and less green space. I do like the manicured trails and views.

Good catching up with the Turtle, it's been awhile. Like HAZ, :yr:

13th annual thanksgiving day hike
a few of the usual suspects and waldo/wally as a new addition
got going from adero around 0630
warmer than usual temps
a few hikers on sunrise
spent a few minutes up there then the group split up with some of us doing the over and back
fun crew, always a good hike to work up an appetite

I had the time to why not? The morning was nice and cool and warmed up a little on the way. Adero Canyon trail traffic was light but the Sunrise trail was busy. I kept up with the titans for a while until i didn't. They waited for me at the saddle and we continued on back to the the tralihead. A great morning workout before the feast. Nice to see everyone again.

Another successful Thanksgiving Day hike in the books. Nice to see Wally (Waldo) join the rest of us Turkeys this year.

I was super thankful that it wasn't very cold this time. We had a nice little breeze off and on combined with good temps. I think we all agree that this new route from Adero Trailhead is much better than the old Lost Dog starting point. Thanks for organizing this Kelly and as always a very Happy Thanksgiving to all of the Hike Arizona folks.

Another Thanksgiving Sunrise hiking to Sunrise Peak. We planned on a 6:30 start and made it happen with a group of 6. A good pace was set and one layer was good as we warmed up fast. Saw a nice sunrise and the Fountain Hills fountain too!
Made good time to the peak then took our group pic and said our Happy Thanksgiving before parting ways. Linda and I headed for the cars as the rest did an over and back. Nice to see everyone. Great group, weather and trail! Thanks everyone and Happy Thanksgiving! Like HAZ, you rock!

The annual Thanksgiving sunrise hike. Got started just before 0630. Nobody brought a headlamp. Denny brought a pole to keep us herded onto the correct trail. It was nice to be able to see a few minutes later. Most of the hike is pretty easy, the only steep part is the final quarter mile to the summit. Breezy.

Spent a few minutes up top, getting a group photo. Most of the group continued down the other side for the longer over and back, but Denny and I opted for the shorter out and back. I had to get home to start cooking. Prime rib, not turkey. Quick hike back to the trailhead. Good to see everyone. Happy Thanksgiving!

This was another hike to Sunrise Peak, which has become my go-to summertime hike.

It was actually a nice morning for the hike -- it was a bit breezy and the sun was behind clouds for all but the last 1.5 miles of the hike.

EDIT: On the way back I saw what I thought was either a fox or coatimundi, and I went with a coati because of the long length of the tail. However, based on some input from @outdoor_lover , I think that it was a fox afterall.

I decided to hike close to home this morning.

I was a little slower than normal today:
1) I was hiking along and felt water on the front of my shirt. Somehow the bit valve came off the end of the hose and water was pouring out. The valve was a day-glo green color so I figured that I would see it, but I never did. So I had to unhook the hose from the bladder, and stop and reconnect it whenever I needed water.
2) I came across a western diamondback in the middle of the trail and it would not move -- poor trail etiquette if you ask me! After waiting for a few minutes I finally got off the trail and circled around him.

It was cloudy for the most part this morning, which made for better than usual hiking conditions.

It was a hot and sunny morning with very little wind, and I am glad that I started early.

Route scout flat-lined a couple of time for some reason. I used a tablet computer that stayed in my backpack on airplane mode for the entire hike, so I am not sure what caused the malfunction. It wasn't like I have never done this hike, so I adjusted the distance to what it should be.

I started the hike at 5:00 AM and was in shade for about 1/2 way up to Sunrise Peak, but it was sunny thereafter.

It is definitely summertime now!

I stayed close to home this morning. I only saw 2 other people on the hike.

I could see lots of smoke from the Adams Fire, which isn't too far east of Fountain Hills. Fortunately for Fountain Hill residents, the fire seems to be heading north instead of west.

I have not done this hike since Thanksgiving, so I thought that I would give it a shot today. I imagine that I will be doing this one somewhat regularly now that the temperatures are heating up.

There was a nice breeze atop Sunrise Peak, so I took a longer than normal break up there.

This was an early morning hike to Sunrise Peak -- it's always nice to do a hike that I haven't done before.

I was with a group of professional HAZ hikers -- no slackers in this bunch!

The weather was perfect and it was a fun hike.

The Thanksgiving tradition lives on. We had a new joiner this year. Nice to meet you Wade! I am always thankful for the friends I have made over the years on HAZ and this group is no exception. Always fun to hike with and see everyone.

For some reason it didn't feel as busy this time on the trail and it was a little warmer. We all seem to agree that starting from Adero is the way to go vs Lost Dog. Another great Turkey Day hike in the books.

12th time we've done a sunrise peak hike on thanksgiving, 2nd time from adero canyon trailhead
pretty sure we all prefer this approach
got started close to 0630 viewing a beautiful sunrise
a few other hikers on the peak, where we took a short break and some photos
jj, john and i decided on the over & back
trail didn't seem as crowded as it has in the recent past
cool temps and cloud cover made for great hiking conditions
nice to see everyone, including first timer @dixieflyer
