Tried out a new area for me.

Cool to start, perfect temps to finish

Cypress Trail is a smooth wide trail with some nice views

The Boulders Loop Trail is made up of Boulders South and Boulders North. These were my two favorites for the day. Great views and tread. This loop would be good for out of town AEG challenged midwestern flatlanders. There are a few steep sections to let them know they are no longer in Kansas.

The Monument Peak Loop is a one and done for me. It looks like the majority of it's traffic comes from motorized traffic. The north side of Monument Peak has some redeeming qualities. It looks pretty nice hiking next to the small Creek.

It'd be best to hit anyone of these trails on a weekday. They appear to be popular and may be be busy on the weekend

Doubles up to a BD #2
Lapped some easy stuff at the Joint with my Pandemic partner. The Boulders Loop Trail is particularly scenic right now with the flowing water. We started from the East trailhead. There were a lot of hikers out, but we didn’t see any climbers.

 Resin Man Trad
One .75 will protect down low, than there are two bolts to clip in the chimney.
 Puff Puff Pass 5.7Trad
Kind of a meh route, single rack is fine, most will feel good only placing a few pieces on this one..
 Dank and Dabby 5.8Trad
Both Pernell and I took falls at the Bulge, tough little sequence, we did at end of day when we were beat. Protects well. Will need at least one #4 where crack gets wider.
 Kryptonite 5.8Trad1 Pitch30 ft
Short but sweet traditional hand crack. Takes pro up to a BD #2.
Headed to Stewarts Pocket to get some easy trad miles in and learn a few things about aid and jugging up fixed lines with Pernell. All the trad leads were solid moderates. Kryptonite was by far the best of them, a true hand crack with a blank face, so if offered some nice practice in that area for me.

I took a solid little whipper on Dank and Dabby. Thankfully, Pernell is a pro and was literally able to get in just enough slack to prevent what would have been a pretty painful decking. I had just cleared the bulge and with a solid right fist jam tried reaching across body for my number four, as I knew I was getting dangerously high above my second piece. The awkward cross body movement killed my center of balance and the crack spit me right out. I also believe with the bulge and movements of this crack should go 5.9, but doesn't matter and no excuses.

arete
got an invite from mike and fletch to climb in a new area
stewart pocket has a number of smaller crags
the only triplog on haz is from @friendofthundergod on stewart peak
we chose to check out the joint
the approach is on the boulders north trail for one mile, then up to the crag
the rock is granite, and the face climbs are thin :o
started on glory bowl - fletch led and i followed, not quite making the last few feet
next mike led kryptonite, a beautiful hand crack
this was the first time i've climbed a crack the way it should be done, with hand and foot jams
it was fun, and we all did it twice
mike set a top rope for calf cramps, a 5.10 - out of my league, only made it to the second bolt
no one got it clean
we top roped wake & bake, and i went first so that i had no pre-conceived ideas about it
finally utilized better technique on the slab and finished this one with decent form
next was what a blunt, on a nice arete
didn't get this one cleanly, but i got it - thought this one was the most fun of the day
fletch climbed well, mike finished the day with a stellar second climb of the arete
challenging climbing for me but a good learning experience and i did better as the day went on
had dinner at the thai place in payson - yum
always a good time with these two :)
beautiful day for it, too
