A very enjoyable evening hike with Preston to the Dam. Lots of water is still flowing over the dam. Huge cottonwoods with lots of green leaves have fully leaved out and some type of bird was making a nice song, just before sunset. We went a bit further up the road to a bench before turning back and there were some early flowering saguaro there.

did about 25 min easy, then 3 x 5' hill repeats up phoneline link. 6 more hard minutes on sabino creek. then cruised it the rest of the way.

The rain finally ceased as I sat in the Sabino parking lot, so off I went to check out the creek. Watching the Pima county flood website, I knew I wouldn’t be able to cross the creek anywhere. First stop was Sabino Dam, which was a muddy, frothy torrent at 1250 cubic feet per second. I joined the other flood gawkers. Very impressive, but the high water debris was several feet higher from this morning, when there was 3x the amount of water coming down the canyon. Would have liked to have seen that. Walked through rattlesnake alley, up the Bluff Trail, and then onto Sabino Canyon Road proper. The first crossing was my turn around, again a freight train of chocolate water. Went up Rattlesnake Canyon a bit before retracing my steps. Took the Bear Canyon road back for a tiny bit more elevation.
