I hiked up to Thompson Peak from Adero Canyon today.

It was a tad cold at the early morning start, but warmed up once the sun came up.

There weren't many people out at this part of the preserve, which was nice.

For FHP 100% Progress, this hike fit the bill as an excuse to complete two sections of the Sonoran and Lower Sonoran and the North Sonoran Crossover Trails, but I blew past the latter (twice). Definitely didn't miss much because these trails are so Fountain Hills anyway. Seriously, two essentially identical trails that go to the same places. Silly helicopter evacuation areas. Another fairly new trail that goes really nowhere. A fountain that sprays CAP water into the dry desert air and the municipality named after that. I doubted I'd ever endeavor again for 12 of 12 (but I did later). :| Their effort could have been better spent working with MSP to instead build the Sonoran Trail up to the Twin Peaks area. One star because it includes TP (you'll need it).

john and i met bruce at adero canyon at 0645
we planned to do this hike earlier this week, but rescheduled
even with a busy week of hiking, bruce decided to join in
promenade, sonoran, dixie mine, then thompson peak road
last december when @lindaann and i did this hike, the road was muddy and rough
nicely graded and smooth today
steep uphill to the summit, where we took a short break
retraced our steps until taking lower sonoran instead of sonoran
gradual grades and smooth trail condition on lower sonoran
finished up before noon
clear skies, nice breeze, beautiful day for a solid hike
nice to see bruce again, it's been a couple months
john, thanks for driving, coffee and breakfast :)
always good hiking with the boys
