I was a little nervous about heading to Sedona on a holiday weekend just days after the Dry Creek trail system quarantine was lifted. But, the temperatures were forecasted to be great and we're early birds so we went for it. Got to the Mescal trail head at 7am and only a couple of vehicles there. Quick climb up Mescal right from the start then the trail levels off to go around the mountain. Opted for the "Extreme" trail this time. The only real tough part is jumping a foot wide gap on the off camber slick rock (I ended up pushing my bike across). Mescal is such a treat! From there we jumped on Deadmans Pass for a big long climb over to Long Canyon which is smooth fast downhill to Chuck Wagon. Chuck Wagon is a nice long collection of ups and downs with plenty of shade and some interesting rocky challenges. Lots of traffic on Chuck Wagon, both bikers and hikers. Took Chuck Wagon all the way down to Girdner and over to Snake. From there to OK Alternative which was devoid of any signs of recent human traffic. Jumped on OK for a bit and then crossed the road up Canyon of Fools to Yucca and back to the trailhead on Mescal.

Carey got a new mountain bike last week and today was her first official ride. We started the ride from the Cultural Center and headed out to Stirrup, Saddle Up, Girdner, Anaconda, AZ Cypress, and returned on Girdner. Was super surprised to find only one other vehicle in the parking lot when we arrived at 7:15! Didn't see many out on the trails either. I guess they were all still stuck in the long line of traffic heading north bound on the I-17 we saw on our return to Phoenix. Trails in the Dry Creek complex are all just so awesome with spectacular views.

Short hike with wife, made even shorter due to trail conditions.

Wife and I went up to visit her dad who is recovering in rehab, only to discover that it is under "lock down" due to the Corona Virus. Ended up talking with him for a short while through the window before heading up to Sedona. Stopped at the Ranger Station to buy my Annual Red Rock Pass. The station is pretty nice; staffed with helpful individuals and and helpful trail info. Buying an annual pass is the way to go if you plan on hiking more than couple of times throughout the year in Sedona. Cost is now $20. It was $15 last I bought.

We drove over to the dirt road that leads into the TH for AZ Cypress trail. We stopped at the first cul-de-sac that we came upon. In part because there is an unofficial extension to the Cypress trail that extends past the official TH and the cul-de-sac lies close to the start of this extension, but also because the official TH acts as a known and accepted shooting range for the residents of Sedona. Today was no exception as soon as we got out of the car we could periodic pop of a pistol. We had to walk a few hundred yards down the road to get to the start of the trail, which takes off from the west side of the road. The trail was easy to follow even though we didn't start to see signage until after we passed the "shooting gallery". We were only able to go as far as the first river crossing, because today that is exactly what it was! I have done this trail a couple of times before and it is has always been a dry crossing. Today it was a river! Pretty neat to see, but it made for a very abbreviated hike. Trail was in surprisingly good shape. A couple of muddy spots, but otherwise Firm enough for hikers and bikers.

Don't think I've ever seen the parking for Devils Bridge so extended. People were parked along the road past the Chuckwagon/Girdner TH. Crazy! I would have hated to have been on that trail. I guess if people can't gather in places (like sporting events, concerts) hiking becomes a strong alternative.

I was dropped off this morning at the Bear Canyon Trailhead and ran out to the Palatki Ruins on FR152. Then I ran back to the Fay Canyon Trailhead and hit the trails back to 89A near Dry Creek Road.

I suppose it is all in the eye of the beholder. Early morning (5AM) with the sun just beginning to crest the peaks on the eastern horizon, casts wonderful shades along the red rock formations to your north and west. Saw some hot air balloons as they lifted off from the area near Boynton and glided on their way toward Cockscomb.

No I wouldn't recommend this as THE hike if you have limited time, but it is a very pleasant trail over peaceful hills, through Dry Creek, and among the forest trees. The Red rock views are all at a distance (except those immediately at your feet in the Creek). This is a hike you can safely take with the entire family.

Judy and I met some friends for an afternoon hike. We both use the book 'Sedona Hikes' by Richard & Sherry Mangum so we picked a short easy hike we'd both not completed. I'd not recommend this one....it just does not stack up to most of the hikes in the area. Views are tame as you walk through forest of small Arizona Cypress trees. We parked at the junction of Dry Creek Rd and 152 (Vultee Arch Rd), walked directly across Dry Creek Rd and could see the TH sign for Girdner Trail. This is the start. We followed the trail signs passing the intersections of the Dawa and OK Trails. It's an out and back.
