After doing Cold Spring and Pueblo the day before, we went up Devil's Chasm. Another great day of hiking with great weather. Had lunch at the ruins and headed back. Didn't know about the cave until we got back, would like to go back and explore that some other time. This was my boys' favorite hike of the 3 we did, favorite ruin was Cold Spring. Great couple of days being disconnected..

Took the entire family to the Sierra Anchas to see some ruins. We arrived Sunday at just after 10 AM. We hiked up to Cold Spring Canyon Ruins, enjoyed our lunch, then headed over to Pueblo Canyon Ruins. Great hike and everyone did great, even my 9 year old never complained. We camped down below Devil's Chasm so we could do the that hike the next day. Enjoyed the blood moon and the solitude of the Sierra Anchas. Saw one other vehicle on our way in at Devil's Chasm, but never saw them after our hike or anyone else for that matter.

Decided to venture out again to Reavis Falls and do a backpacking trip with my two older boys and a friend Matt with his son. We started in Friday and camped just over the peak at the first site we saw (so our boys wouldn't have to carry their heavy packs up the long hill). There was snow scattered throughout in the shady spots. The wind made for a cold evening outside the tent. A police or rescue helicopter flew by with a spotlight while we were around our fire. Saturday morning we hiked to the falls and had them all to ourselves. The boys enjoyed the scramble up all the rocks to the falls. On our way up the hill we ran into 6 hikers heading down. Gathered our gear at the top and headed back to the truck. All the boys (2 age 10 and one age eight) did great. My 8 year old was determined to beat everyone back to the truck as he was the last one up the big hill and he was the first back with me by about 10 minutes. Great trip, beautiful weather for hiking, falls weren't as big as my previous trips, but still running and always spectacular. All the photos were taken by Matt.

Took my two older boys (9) & (7) backpacking for spring break. Had a great time. Ran into one other HAZ member (berkforbes)` on the first night. Made it within 1/2 mile to the trailhead in my Hyuandai Elantra, so the road is in great shape. Hadn't been here in a while, so it was nice to visit the ruins again and the boys had a great time.

Hiked this on my way back from Tucson. It was my 5 year old's first summit and he loved it. Weather was perfect and only a few other folks on the trail. Met a 78-year old from KY on the summit who encouraged my son to keep hiking and recommended some other hikes to put on my list.

Decided to do a last minute backpacking trip with my nephew. Reached the trail head at 6PM Friday night and hiked in 4 miles to a campsite partly down the mountain. It was a great night, the moon was very bright, casting shadows from the trees. Woke up the next morning at 6AM. had breakfast and started hiking at 7AM, reached the fall at 8:30. Fall was running well, we hung around for about 40 minutes and started back. Unfortunately this is my second mis-adventure on this hike. Last year I hiked up the wrong creek (Lime Mountain Spring/Maple Spring not sure the correct name (the one you cross on the trail)) and this year, I missed the trail coming back and hiked an extra mile down creek and had to reverse our direction and head back and kept to the right to find the trail. We kept to the right so much that we ended up following the spring (mentioned above) back to where it crosses the trail. I realize that was the spring after a while, but figured we'd just follow it up to the trail crossing and explore that creek seems how we'd already been hiking in a creek on rocks and boulders for over 2 hours. :) We ran into tough_boots and his hiking partner at the crossing as we were filtering water for the climb back out and told them to not make the mistake we did of missing the trail (still not sure how we missed it) ](*,) From there we headed up the hill, grabbed our packs and a bite to eat and arrived at the parking lot at 2:15 for the drive home. This is two years in a row going in February after rain and both times have been great despite the extra exploration. I'm becoming very familiar with the Maple spring now that I've hiked it up last year and down this year. I think I'll go again next year just to get it right and do the hike to the falls and back. My nephew's gps read 6.5 from the parking lot to the falls and our total trip showed 15. Yes, he had a gps and we still got lost. It's a small one for running, but nonetheless would have helped had we referred to it earlier when we missed the trail instead of barreling ahead thinking it was further down. We also saw 5 whitetails, one on the hike in at night and 4 the next morning (at least one buck).

Finally made it to Reavis Falls. Took my older brother and his 13-year old daughter and 11-year old son. We had a great time. Had a (unintentional) side trip up lime mountain springs due to some poor navigation. Hiked up that spring through thorns, etc. for a fairly good distance (at least a mile up) until we realized we were in the wrong place. Came to a place where 3 different water areas came into the spring (I ran up 2 of them far enough to realize no human had been up there for some time or wouldn't go up there if given the choice). I think all the water in the area threw us off, that and the excitement of getting to the falls and we were making great time. We found what looks like a concrete trough up there which I'm not sure why it's there, if anyone knows the story, let me know. We backtracked to the beginning and took the trail down(which my nephew had told me ended) to the real creek and followed it up to the falls (sure seemed like more that 1/2 a mile) and they were flowing great. There were 3 other hikers at the falls having lunch and those were the only hikers we saw all day. It was a great day for a hike and my niece and nephew did great and said they would still go hiking again despite our 2 hour misadventure hacking our way up the spring.

Glad I was finally able to check this one off. Although having done it once, I'm sure I'll want to do it again. Thanks everyone for the good time.
