| no partners | | This was a great hike. I read one review that described it as two Squaw Peaks--maybe even three! It is steep. It was tough getting to the parking lot of the trail head because the road was quite rugged in places. You definitely need a high clearance vehicle. The trail is well maintained. The last mile is well-marked by cairns.
The surrounding landscape is dense with saguaro, cholla, palo verde and ocotillo. The trail is littered with quartz and mica. The mica glints and winks in the sun all along the the last two miles of trail.
The payoff is the summit which is a cap of white quartz on top of the mountain. The quartz is brilliant and cool and reminded me of a cathedral. You can see for miles and miles.
The temp was mid 60-70s, cloudy on the ascent, sunny on descent. It was very windy. I brought 2 liters of water and used every drop. |
