Hiked a little over 4 miles in, then back out. Modest flow of water in the creek at most crossings. Tread in decent shape with evidence of recent and ongoing trail maintenance (thanks, ATA!). Nice casual hike with a group of friends. See a further description at oldslowhans.com/201 ... ail/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My son was in town from Minnesota, so I wanted to show him a beautiful hike away from the crowded trails down in the Valley. Small group of good friends came along on a great cool day (60's here vs 80's in the valley). Hiked as far as the falls which had a moderate flow from recent rainy weather. Trail is in excellent shape with only the usual muddy spots from trail side springs.

Just a great casual hike with awesome scenery.

Hiked this route yesterday for the first time. Route finding was not difficult, but I'd argue about the description "of a 5-10 minute climb" at the final leg to the cave!

This hike is getting tougher to reach. The road, especially beyond the junction to JF Ranch (Woodbury trailhead) is deteriorating badly and soon will require a Jeep or similar vehicle to safely negotiate.

Geezerly bunch of us (avg age maybe 65) did this route today. This has to be one of the top 3 or 4 prettiest day-routes in the Supes. Every other corner brings a "wow, look at that" view. It was billed to us as "no harder than Black Mesa loop. I'd have to argue with that, but not overly tough either.

Bring more water than you think you need. High 70's today, and I emptied a 100oz CamelBak pak plus two 20oz Gatoraids.

Note to geezerly types: DO NOT do this one clockwise. The first mile will take your legs off. :o

Led club group clockwise on this loop 2/23/11. This is one of our favorite routes, and this trip was perfect with nice mid-60's, light breeze to stir the perspiration, and good sun/cloud mix for photos. Well under 5 hours for a mostly "geezerly" group, and that included nice lunch break at the creek below the descent off the mesa.

The Supes are starting to green-up, but flowers are still scarce other than a few early Octillos and some barrel showing buds. No flowing water anywhere on the route, and only a few green puddles in a few isolated deeper traps.

Surprised to see little traffic besides our group --- a few horsemen on the 104 heading east, but 236 and 141 segments were ours alone.

Hiked clockwise from First Water, morning start temp in the 50's, so were able to keep a good pace. Recent rains, so waterfalls abounded on the slopes to the south, and every wash had running water. Love this hike.

Hiked Peralta and Dutchman to First Water. Perfect weather for this 12-miler. Less flowers than I expected, given the wet January weather. Most creeks had some water, especially north of Fremont (the hike up to Fremont was quite dry). A rattler greeted us just before the descent to the Dutchman junction. Kinda early for that, I thought. The views of the Needle are always breathtaking, and lighting was perfect today. Get some great photos.

Group turn-around hiked the first 2.5 miles to the "overlook" point before dropping down to the creek. Nice leg-stretcher for a bunch of pre-geezers. Nice morning hike in coolish weather but brilliant blue skies and perfect photo light. A few poppies just starting to pop, so colors in the Supes will be great in the next week or two. Lunched at the overlook --- more water in the creek than I've ever seen before.

Led a club hike to the Fremont Saddle, pleasant cool morning hike in broken overcast.

This remains one of my favorite hikes to take newcomers into the Supes. The vegetation is lush this spring, the views are phenomenal, and there was sparse traffic on this trip.

For those who've been scared off by the 1,400 feet of elevation gain, you should know it's a steady climb, no 'extreme' grades, no rock scrambling, and excellent footing all the way in both directions. One small section of slickrock which would only be a problem in a rainstorm.

The "reward" at the turnaround is a panoramic view of the interior of the Supes, with Weavers Needle prominent, almost 'close enough to touch', then a leisurely downhill hike back to the trailhead.

Four of us did this as a combination "4-wheeling/hiking" trip. We took Dan's Suzuki 3.6 miles down the jeep trail, parked it, and hiked the remainder (about 3 more miles) down to the lake (actually to the cat-tail marsh at the lake edge). Except for the sandy creek bottom, this is an easy hike with excellent canyon scenery. We spotted a couple of interesting side canyons for future bush-wacking expeditions. Spotted several ponds with stranded minnows and some dried crayfish on the sandy creek bottom. Some of these were a half-mile from the marsh, indicating quite a bit higher water levels in the recent past.

Uh, well, it's a hike in the Supes, so I guess that's OK.

Easy hike, no particular challenges, but neither any particular rewards. Good exercise on a warmish spring day. Wish we had some rain to color up the back country.

Took this hike today, counterclockwise from the Meridian trailhead. Compared to other similar length hikes (Black Mesa Loop in the Supes, as an example) this one hasn't much to recommend it. You're almost never out of view of one housing project or another, and the scenery is pretty average along most of the trail.

If you need a 7-mile hike close to the city to stretch your legs, go for this one.

If you want a back-country experience to go with your hike, there are several nicer choices just down the road in the Superstitions.

Treked this hike, clockwise, on a beautiful day yesterday.

Scenic hike, not too strenuous, but bring plenty of water on a warm day. We did it in about 5 hours --- could have been faster, but did a side trip looking for the arch...... ended up in Fug-aw-we country and never found the arch. I think we quit our search too soon.

This is a good day hike for a newer hiker who wants to "accomplish" something. Well marked trail, but with a few wash crossings that require some 'trail reading' attention. Lots of nice views of the interior of the Supes, including Weavers Needle, Battleship mountain, etc. Elevation gains are gradual (unless you reverse the route, when the climb out of Boulder Canyon onto Black Mesa could be a 'huffer/puffer').

Nice hike to give an old geezer (67) but pretty-much-novice hiker a feeling of accomplishment and some confidence.

Now I won't feel so bad if I don't summit Picket Post next week.

This was my second trip up to Fremont saddle. Last year (mid March) the stream was burbling with water from snow melt. Built a snowman overlooking Weaver Needle. Beautiful hike.

This year for some reason was tougher for this old geezer. Had to take a long break just shy of the summit --- I think I got in too much of a hurry keeping up with some younger hikers, got very lightheaded/blurry vision for several minutes. After an apple and a short rest felt recharged.
